"Live
Cultures" With the foundation of Petri Disk Studios firmly established in the winter of 2000 a new stage of musical production, writing, and composition had begun. To celebrate the first year's work in the lab the idea was born to compile all the various works that had been completed as a celebration and presentation to the public of Petri Disk Studios. Featuring Splintered Tree and alter-ego DJ Drunken Monkey the musical styles branched out even further to create a disparate but connected sound from the now Oakland based studios. Tracklist:
More fresh new productions with plenty of surprises. 2002 was a year of vast expansion for Splintered Tree Records, Petri Disk Studios, and all the community involved far and wide. Splintered Tree Recording artist DJ Drunken Monkey celebrated his first release on San Francisco's well-respected Sunburn Records. Due to be released Spring of 2003 this release will surely be only the first of many for the many talented artists who have become associated with the label and studios over the last year. The track appeared on 2001's compilation as "Besides House" and was remixed and renamed "Gratification" for it's release as Sunburn's 28th title. This latest compilation includes many of the collaborative efforts that were a part of 2002's new growth and direction. Tracklist:
"Dark
Town b/Shit Do Stink"
"Songs from the Holy Fool" (STR 006) Petri Disk Studios played home and office for the production needs of the Boys for a span of 4 years of sporadic recording. It took a while, but the results are in with an excellent collection of songs sewn together with the threads of quirky songwriting, goofy lyrics, and smirking political commentary. Although the overall feel of these songs is loose and "lo-fi", it lends itself perfectly to the esthetic of the band and their trashy garage rock vibe. |
